Within music lessons at Kingsteignton School, we ensure that all pupils have access to high quality musical experiences and teaching, fostering a love for music and enabling pupils to develop their musical knowledge and skills. Our lessons are taught weekly, and they are based on a combination of Charanga and Education South West’s Music Curriculum. We provide pupils with opportunities to develop their knowledge through experiencing the joy of creating and performing music as a group, have a wide range of opportunities to learn different instruments with specialised teachers and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the music they engage with through systematic analysis and reflection.

As well as weekly lessons, we offer peripatetic drum, piano and guitar lessons and we offer all children the opportunity to learn instruments with specialist teachers. To further discover and develop their knowledge skills, we also have musical theatre and choir clubs during lunchtimes and after school.

Kip (the music man) is a violin, recorder, pitched percussion, singing teacher and music workshop leader! The wonderful PTFA have kindly funded Kip to come and teach a scheme of music lessons to all children across the school. EYFS and KS1 have learnt to sing and KS2 have enjoyed learning the ukeleles. The children loved putting on a concert to their parents! The children have also been involved in Kip and Elfyn’s, 7 days of music, interactive concert. The children loved singing new songs and listening to music that they had composed. We also have other specialist music teachers who come in to work with classes such as a samba teacher (booked to come in June) who will teach the children drumming!
