At Kingsteignton School, we use the 'Language Angels' scheme of work and resources to ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes.
Learning a foreign language is part of the primary National Curriculum and is a requirement for all children within Key Stage 2.
All pupils are expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations and excellent standards in their foreign language learning - the aim being that pupils will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2.
The pupils begin learning French in Year 3 at the 'early learning level' and continue during Year 4, moving onto the 'intermediate units'.
In Year 5 and Year 6, to broaden their knowledge of foreign languages, the pupils explore the Spanish language instead. This is with the intention that, when moving onto secondary education, they will have had an insight into both languages and be able to make the choice of which they may like to continue.
Across both languages, children are exposed to all of the listening, reading and writing aspects of learning a foreign language.
