What a fantastic Victorian day we have had!
We begun the day learning about what the school rules would have been and what we were going to make sure we did to ensure we weren't 'punished'. As this point they were introduced to the dunce hat and the cane! The rules included:
1. Waiting for permission to talk.
2. Standing up when answering a question or when someone enters the room.
3. No fidgeting or talking.
We then started our Victorian day by paying to enter the classroom and getting our hands checked for cleanliness. Some of us were sent to wash our hands again!
We then carried out some Victorian school activities such as, handwriting (using chalk and a chalkboard), chanting, arithmetic (using an abacus), marching drills and a playground game (Pass the Slipper).
In the afternoon, we then learnt about how the boys and the girls would have learnt different things in their school day and so we tried out some of these activities. We had a cooking lesson where each made a trifle and we also had a woodwork lesson where we each made a wooden boat. We also had some time playing with Victorian toys.
We have a fantastic day in character and that is thanks to you for your brilliant costumes!
