Cowslip had a great time in the explorer dome today. We listened carefully as we travelled around planet earth and learnt about the different habitats within it. We were transported to the rainforest, desert, and the arctic and we even got rained on! We talked about why the different animals were suited to their habitat - did you know that camels have long eyelashes to protect their eyes from the sand? We learnt that some animals can adapt to hot climates and others to cold climates. Therefore a camel wouldn't be able to survive in the Arctic and a polar bear wouldn't survive in the desert. Some of us had the opportunity to dress up as these animals whilst we discussed this.
Our final destination was a rubbish dump complete with the aroma of this environment. The children had some great ideas of how we could look after planet earth and prevent deforestation/climate change. We all agreed it was our responsibility to do our bit.
A highlight of the session was experiencing dry ice in the dome - the children were really wow'd by how this created a fog around their feet!
