At Kingsteignton School we want reading to be more than something that the children have to do at school. We want reading to become something that the children choose to do because they enjoy it! As Dr Seuss once said, “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.
There is a wealth of research highlighting the lifelong benefits of reading for pleasure from increased empathy, improved relationships with others along with the many academic benefits.
In order to promote reading for pleasure this term children in KS1 will be introduced to the ‘Snuggle Up and Read Bag’, (SUAR bags).
One child from each class will take home the SUAR bag each weekend. The bag contains a selection of books, Toffee the dog, hot chocolate, a treat, a review book and pen. Take time to explore the books with your child and have fun. Read all of the books or one of them. Share them as a family and involve siblings if you like!
